SCIP Overview
Legal basis: Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC and its amendment (EU) 2018/851
Entry into force: January 5, 2021
Scope and requirements: Reporting obligations on SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) present in articles at concentrations above 0.1% via the SCIP database.
The European Commission is considering discontinuing the SCIP database as part of its Simplification of Administrative Burdens in Environmental Legislation initiative. This may ease reporting obligations for companies across the supply chain.
