Overview

Hello, this is MDSKorea.ย

AIAG's official PCF calculation guide has been newly added to IMDS Guideline 027.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Hover over the terms with orange dotted underlines in the text (e.g., PCF) for a few seconds to view detailed explanations.

Key Takeaways
Q1. What is the core of this Guideline 027 revision?ย

The key point is the addition of AIAG's official PCF calculation guide ("A Simple Guide to Product Carbon Footprint"). Published by the AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group), this guide is designed to help practitioners easily understand complex PCF calculation methods.

Q2. Is it mandatory to enter the PCF for all components?ย

According to IMDS system regulations, it is an 'optional' requirement, not mandatory. However, there are recent cases where customers (OEMs, etc.) require the submission of PCF data.ย

Therefore, we recommend consulting with your direct customers first regarding whether to enter this data.

Q3. Will the submitted MDS be rejected if the PCF is not entered?ย

Failure to enter the PCF is not a reason for MDS rejection.ย

Please refer to the following additional information regarding the PCF:

  • PCF Inquiry:ย The entered PCF information will only be reflected in the system and available for inquiry after the respective MDS is finally approved.

  • Disclosure Scope:ย The carbon emission figures themselves are shared only with your direct customers.

    • Only the quality indicators (PDS/DQR), which represent data reliability, are transmitted anonymously to the entire upper supply chain.

Q4. Is the PCF automatically calculated within the IMDS system?ย

The IMDS does not support an automatic PCF calculation function.ย

Therefore, a separate calculation process is required as follows:

  • PCF Calculation Method
    • Components must be calculated based solely on the 'Catena-X PCF Rulebook'.
    • Semi-components and materials can be calculated based on the 'Catena-X PCF Rulebook' or other designated rulebooks depending on their specific type.
  • IMDS Entry:ย Only the final calculated results and related information will be entered into the IMDS system.

*Referring to the newly added AIAG guide will make it easier to understand this calculation process.

Conclusion

While entering the PCF itself is optional within the system, reporting may be necessary depending on customer requests. Since there is no automatic calculation function within IMDS, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the PCF calculation methods in advance.

MDSKorea will always strive to provide you with useful information. Thank you.
